ABOUT ABOUT

Take the Bacchanalian Challenge!

Don’t just taste the wines – judge them!

We pick the theme: a varietal, a wine growing region, or a type of wine.

You bring your team (up to 3 people) and three bottles of the same on-theme wine.

When you arrive, we’ll brown bag them so you don’t know which is yours. Then, the challenge begins!

Who brought the best bottle of the night? You decide.

At the end of the evening, we tally the votes and the winning team takes home a bottle of wine from the rest of the teams. The losers? Well, they take their own bottles home.

August's Bacchanalian Challenge: Pinot Noir

So many great regions and producers make Pinot Noir. Old world? New World? You decide who makes it best.

Team registration required! Here’s why: We want to give you a list of the teams and the wines each brought in ranking order. That way, if you find one you love, you’ll know which bottle it was.

Registration closes August 10th 5PM.

RULES & DETAILS: Please read carefully!

YOUR TEAM

Teams of 1 to 3 people bring 3 bottles of the same wine, per team.  Two bottles are put into brown bags and coded for a blind tasting; the third goes into the winnings pile. Got a team of 4? You need to make two teams.

For more varietal help feel free to give us a call or ask at your local wine merchant.

Remember that more expensive doesn’t always = winner.

UPON ARRIVAL

At the event, all 3 bottles of wine per team will be given to the Hosts, who will wrap 2 of the bottles to conceal the wine’s identity. The 2 wrapped bottles will have a number randomly assigned to them and will then be set out for tasting. The third bottle will be left unopened and will not be tasted or displayed.

Each attendee will be given a card with a number for each wine. The wines will be rated on a taste scale of 1 to 5. At the end of the tasting period, each attendee must write down the number of his or her favorite wine and least favorite wine. You'll identify your one winner and loser wine on a piece of paper to be collected and tallied.

IMPORTANT TIMING

5:30pm doors open for team check in and wine drop off. All wines and teams must be checked in by 5:50pm. The event will start promptly at 6pm and will end at 8pm with the announcement of the winning team.

WINNING

The top three teams that brought the favorite wine will take home everyone’s third unopened bottle of wine. The invitee or invitee’s team that brought the least favorite bottle of wine will take back his or her unopened bottle of wine. All decisions regarding the favorite and least favorite wines are final, and you must be present to win.
